Nebula Book Shop opens pop-up at Cafe Reynard
Mayor Gary Christenson welcomed Nebula Book Shop, a Malden-based pop-up specializing in science fiction, fantasy and horror, which will set up at Idle Hands Craft Ales/Cafe Reynard on the second Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Mayor Gary Christenson recently welcomed Nebula Book Shop to Idle Hands Craft Ales/Cafe Reynard, the city announced Oct. 15.
The small independent pop-up bookshop is based in Malden and specializes in science fiction, fantasy and horror. Owners Jessica Sanford and Isaac Smolund opened the business in March 2026 after realizing how much they missed living near a neighborhood bookstore that could host community events and meetups.
Their goal is to use the pop-up model to work toward an eventual brick-and-mortar location that could offer a new community space for the Malden area.
The shop plans to host pop-ups, book clubs, outdoor reading events and collaborations with other local businesses to bring people together. Nebula Book Shop will be at Cafe Reynard/Idle Hands on the second Saturday of every month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
For more information on other events around town, the shop can be followed on Instagram at @nebulabookshop or found at its website.
