The City of Malden has been awarded a $425,000 state grant to renovate the Linden Park Playground, Mayor Gary Christenson announced Oct. 21.

"The City of Malden is grateful to the Healey-Driscoll Administration for their consistent and critical support of Malden park projects," Christenson said. "We are eager to upgrade Linden Park so that our students, families, and all of Malden can enjoy it for years to come."

The money comes from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs' Parkland Acquisitions and Renovations for Communities Grant Program, which helps cities and towns create and renovate outdoor recreation areas.

"With this funding we will bring much-needed improvements to the playground at Linden Park, which serves the Linden community and the whole city," said Ward 8 City Councillor Jadeane Sica. "Following on the success of the Linden Rink project, the new playground will provide a modern facility for our children and families."

The renovation will be managed by the city's Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development. Planned work includes updating play features, adding fencing, replacing mulch with rubberized surfaces, planting new trees, and installing a shade shelter and picnic tables.

The city has engaged the public, including students from Linden STEAM Academy, through three public meetings and two surveys as part of the design process. Construction is anticipated to begin in summer 2027.

Residents can find more information on the Linden Park playground project or email Jane Ventrone at jventrone@cityofmalden.org.
