Malden board OKs charter school sign variance
The Malden Board of Appeals unanimously approved a sign variance for Mystic Valley Regional Charter School's middle school gymnasium at 31 Granite Street.

MALDEN — The Malden Board of Appeals unanimously approved a sign variance for Mystic Valley Regional Charter School's middle school gymnasium at 31 Granite Street. Civil engineer Al Carrier, representing the school, told the board the unlit canopy sign is about seven inches high and 20 feet across, reading "Mystic Valley Regional Charter School" in yellow lettering on a maroon background. Carrier said the city's Sign Committee could not approve the sign administratively solely because the property sits in a Residence A zoning district, not over its size or design.
No residents submitted written objections or spoke against the petition. On a roll call vote on Petition 26-007, board members Desposito, Bilgin, King, You and Froyo voted 5-0 in favor, and the board separately approved its July 15 minutes on a unanimous voice vote.
