MALDEN — The Malden Board of Appeal voted 5-0 to approve a side-yard setback variance for a Murray Hill Road home addition. Daniel and Carrie Miller sought the variance to convert an existing deck at 52 Murray Hill Road into finished living space with a second bathroom, saying "we really don't want to leave Malden." The board attached a condition requiring the new foundation's footing stay out of a city drainage easement where officials believe a 1930s-era 12-inch clay tile pipe remains in use. Board member Bilgin, who made the approval motion, said the addition would be "now more non-conforming than existing deck" but would not create a new setback issue.
No members of the public spoke for or against the petition.
