MALDEN — The Malden Board of Appeal unanimously approved two zoning variance petitions at a brief July 15 hearing. The board signed off on a roughly 60.6-square-foot wall sign for F.W. Webb Company's Eastern Avenue location, down from an original 75-square-foot design, after sign designer Ed Spinney of SignArt returned with smaller options; a member of the public, David Schoen, told the board the reduced sizes looked acceptable on the building.
Separately, the board rescinded a deed condition on a Wyoming Avenue property after petitioner Franz Marangi said the restriction, tied to a specific owner rather than the land itself, had blocked him from getting the insurance needed to sell. "The less I talk, the more persuasive I feel," Marangi told the board afterward. Alternate member Alex Yu sat in for an absent member identified as Froyo; the board adjourned at 6:49 p.m.
