School Board Delays Equity Panel Overhaul
Malden School Committee adopted a new 2026-27 calendar and pushed off two decisions after public pressure over an AI tutoring tool.
School Committee · Meeting of January 12, 2026
Malden School Committee adopted a new 2026-27 calendar and pushed off two decisions after public pressure over an AI tutoring tool. Several parents and Ward 3 City Councilor Amanda Linehan urged the board to halt the "Course Mojo" pilot, saying students were enrolled without consent and that "we have no plans to measure its effectiveness." The committee voted 5-4 to table a subcommittee overhaul that would have dissolved its Equity and Opportunity panel, and separately delayed a vote on a special education transportation contract with NRT until a February 2 meeting. Members adopted the 2026-27 calendar, with students in grades 1-12 starting August 26, and accepted a $100 donation from Mayor Gary Christenson to the Malden High School Choral Arts Society.
In executive session, the board approved a 3 percent retroactive cost-of-living raise for the Beebe school's MOST site coordinator.
