Malden Youth Soccer is registering players for its fall intown and travel programs.

MALDEN -- With late summer underway, Malden Youth Soccer (MYS) is the lone item of substance in the local sports picture this week, as the nonprofit club opens registration for its fall season.

YOUTH LEAGUES -- Malden Youth Soccer, a volunteer-run nonprofit funded by registration fees and sponsors, is signing up players for two divisions this fall. Intown soccer is open to players in grades pre-K through 3 and is designed, per the organization, to "lay the foundation for a life-long love of the game by focusing on basic skills, fun, and enjoyable exercise." Travel teams, for grades 3 through 8, compete against other towns in the Middlesex Youth Soccer League, with games played on weekends; MYS states its fall travel season is open to players in grades 3 through 8. The club, which says it fields "hundreds of players," is also seeking volunteers for coaching, assistant coaching, refereeing and its board of directors and committees.
