City Council · Meeting of March 17, 2026
MALDEN — The Rules and Ordinance Committee voted unanimously to formally mark a cannabis ordinance section invalid due to a court judgment. Building Commissioner Nelson Miller posed two key questions for the rewrite: whether to maintain the special permit requirement for marijuana licenses and where that authority should reside. Councillor Amanda Linehan expressed a preference for keeping authority with the City Council, while Councillors Karen Colón Hayes and Peg Crowe expressed a preference for transferring authority to the Planning Board.
Councillor Stephen Winslow was assigned to prepare a draft ordinance for the committee's next meeting.
