MALDEN — Municipal Building Committee discussed a $2 million funding gap in the Malden River Works Salt Shed and Boathouse project. The committee, with six of seven members present, reviewed cost estimates from designLAB and rejected hoop-design salt shed options as insufficiently durable and cost effective. Chair Nelson Miller was assigned to verify whether a mechanical cable alternative could meet code and save $37,200.

The committee approved design changes including aluminum siding instead of wood, a corrugated metal roof, and retention of the storefront window system. Members planned to move forward with bidding and scheduled a follow-up with designLAB on July 9 at 10 a.m.
