MALDEN — The Malden City Council voted unanimously to adopt an order requesting the Mayor seek a financial management review from the Massachusetts Division of Local Services. Councillor Michelle Luong reported the last such review was completed in 2011; the state review will evaluate municipal operations, financial practices, and organizational efficiency at no cost to the city. All 11 Council members became sponsors.
The Finance Committee will report findings to the full Council upon completion. The Council discussed a separate state audit proposal but placed it on file; Councillor Karen Colón Hayes noted such audits take up to two years and incur unknown costs.
