City Council elected Amanda Linehan as Council President for 2026 in a 10-1 vote on January 5. All 11 councillors were present at Malden High School for the Inaugural recess meeting. Councillor Carey McDonald nominated Linehan, seconded by Councillor Ari Taylor.

Councillor Ryan O'Malley cast the sole vote against the motion to elect Linehan to the leadership position.
