Licensing Board · Meeting of June 16, 2026
Malden Licensing Board voted to reject Massachusetts House Bill 5482, which would temporarily extend alcohol service hours to 3 a.m. at licensed establishments through July 31, 2026. Board Chair Kevin Molis cited public safety concerns and the Governor's rapid enactment, which prevented the board from planning provisions. Two restaurant owners, Avlot Quessa and Marie-Chantal Quesa of Island Restaurant, and a KASA restaurant representative spoke in favor of the extension for economic reasons, but board members Denise Balboni Cowie and Andrew Zeiberg raised concerns about drunk driving and overpour from neighboring towns.
The board voted 3-0 to reject the bill.
