Historical Commission · Meeting of August 18, 2026
MALDEN — The Malden Historical Commission voted 5-0 on August 18 to invite the architect of a Salem Street mixed-use development to present plans for incorporating historic elements from 15 Ferry Street into the new project, fulfilling a condition set in the Commission's December 2025 decision. The Commission also met with city planning staff to discuss a concept proposal to amend the Demolition & Alteration Delay Ordinance to establish a date limitation, narrow the ordinance's scope, and modify its criteria. Commission members expressed concerns about the amendments, and Deputy Director of Planning and Economic Development Zachery LeMel confirmed the Planning office will not advance the proposal without further Commission discussion.
The Commission reviewed status updates on preservation designations for 245 Bryant Street, 808 Salem Street, and One Salem Street, and discussed formation of standing subcommittees and educational outreach partnerships.
