MALDEN — Finance Committee unanimously approved the Fiscal Year 2027 budget with amendments. The 6-0 vote backed changes to restore the Elections Outreach Coordinator position in the City Clerk's Department and reallocate ward improvement funding. CFO Charles Ranaghan reported the city expected approximately $3 million in savings from its transition to Group Insurance Commission health coverage, though final premium details would not arrive until July.

He said impact bargaining with unions had reduced expected layoffs to 4 or 5 positions. City Solicitor Alicia McNeil defended budgets for outside counsel and court judgments, citing insufficient in-house staffing and the need for summer reserves.
