Finance Committee backed a feasibility study of municipal operations and financial practices for Malden.
City Council · Meeting of February 3, 2026
MALDEN — Finance Committee backed a feasibility study of municipal operations and financial practices for Malden. The committee voted unanimously to recommend that the Mayor seek a financial management review from the Massachusetts Department of Revenue's Division of Local Services, expected to take several months to a year evaluating municipal operations, financial practices, and organizational efficiency. Councillor Michelle Luong, sponsor, noted a similar 2011 review resulted in 33 recommendations now addressed, and the current review aims to update practices ahead of an upcoming override vote.
The committee also voted unanimously to refer a State Auditor audit proposal to the Full Council, as sponsors Councillor Karen Colón Hayes and Councillor Ryan O'Malley decided to focus on the management review instead.
