Community Preservation Committee · Meeting of January 21, 2026
Malden CPC deliberated on six FY26 applications totaling approximately $896,500 but took no formal votes. The committee heard legal opinions from City Solicitor McNeil and Assistant Solicitor Rajasekaran on whether First Parish, Emmanuel Baptist, and Saint Paul's Parish may receive Community Preservation Act funds; the solicitors opined they qualify but cautioned that CPA money cannot support explicitly religious spaces. Chair Rachael Running advocated for funding all three churches but not at full amounts.
Applications discussed included $500,000 from the Affordable Housing Trust Fund, $114,000 for record digitization, $60,000 for a rental assistance pilot, $100,000 for fire station restoration, and $122,500 for church buttress restoration.
