Malden City Council approved a cannabis special permit amendment at 36 Charles Street, voting 10 to 0 after Councillor Ryan O'Malley vacated the chamber citing insufficient due diligence time. The amendment to DMS Trinity, LLC's permit removes a non-transferable condition, allowing the owner to bring in a new investor for Cannabis Licensing and Enforcement Commission vetting. O'Malley's failed motion to table the petition reflected his concerns about process timing: the hearing was scheduled for the last council session before summer recess.
The council also passed ordinances reducing the Cemetery Trustees board from five to three members (with O'Malley dissenting), restructuring the Emergency Management Board, raising building permit fees from $16 to $18, amended the Inclusionary Zoning Ordinance, and referred Residential Kitchens ordinances for Planning Board review.
