MALDEN — Rules & Ordinance Committee split zoning amendment to advance 15 items. The committee unanimously recommended Paper 327-26, containing 14 agreed zoning changes plus all other restaurants, to the Malden City Council for a vote expected October 20. Three contentious categories—motel-hotel, fast food restaurant, and supermarket uses—were tabled in Paper 327A-26 for further discussion.

In related business, the committee recommended Paper 415-26, establishing an Assistant Department Head Salary Schedule with retroactive 3 percent cost-of-living increases for fiscal years 2025 and 2026, following a September 10 Teamsters agreement. Finance Committee Chair Carey McDonald noted the Finance Committee would review the financial implications before supporting the required companion appropriation.
