MALDEN — The Rules & Ordinance Committee began planning to rewrite Malden's cannabis ordinance after a court judgment invalidated the rules. Chair Stephen Winslow and members Peg Crowe, Amanda Linehan, and Ryan O'Malley discussed principal use requirements and buffer zones. State law requires a 500-foot buffer zone around schools; other buffer zones are subject to city review.

Vice Chair Karen Colón Hayes acknowledged accepting a campaign donation from a Benevolent Botanicals owner and said she would seek ethics guidance on a potential conflict. The committee plans to consult city zoning staff next.
