Malden Finance Committee tabled a proposed waste ordinance that would have added fees to non-residential multifamily trash tags. Councillor Stephen Winslow sponsored the measure amid growing revenue pressure; the city's trash tag program has declined approximately $400,000 over four years. Councillor Jadeane Sica opposed the fee increase ahead of the municipal override vote, while Councillor Michelle Luong raised concerns about costs being passed to residential tenants.
The Finance Committee voted unanimously to table the ordinance, as did the Rules and Ordinance Committee, deferring action pending the override result.
