City Council Panel Recommends Selling Five Foreclosed Properties

The Malden Public Property Committee voted 5-0 to recommend the Full City Council sell five tax-foreclosed properties in Land Court proceedings.

City Council · Meeting of January 20, 2026

MALDEN — The Malden Public Property Committee voted 5-0 to recommend the Full City Council sell five tax-foreclosed properties in Land Court proceedings. Chair Michelle Luong and the committee voted to recommend sale of papers 16-26, 17-26, 18-26, 19-26, and 20-26, citing the prohibitive cost of retaining the parcels. Treasurer Dan Grover explained that retention requires the city to satisfy liens, reserve excess equity for heirs, and invest in rehabilitation, costs the city cannot sustain.

Properties include sites at 141 Pierce Street Unit 14, 19 Murray Hill Park, 109 West Street, 157 Columbia Street, and 195 Beltran Street. Abutting property owners may bid if parcels are sold through the Multiple Listing Service.
