City Council · Meeting of March 17, 2026
MALDEN — City Council granted two National Grid petitions for underground utility installation and tabled three others on March 17. The Council approved installation on Summer Street and at Broadway Plaza, where Electrify America will operate 350-kilowatt EV chargers capable of adding 200 miles of range in 30 to 60 minutes. Main Street petitions were tabled due to concerns from Councillor Ryan O'Malley about front-facing electrical equipment creating eyesores and traffic accident risks; Councillor Peg Crowe urged coordination between adjacent projects to avoid multiple street disturbances.
A fourth petition was tabled due to notice error, with tentative reschedule for April 28. The Council voted 7-0 with one present vote to approve a Consent Agenda referring multiple financial orders and a DPW salary ordinance to committee review.
