MALDEN — The Malden Emergency Management Team discussed city council cuts to emergency management personnel affecting police, fire, and school staffing. Sergeant John Kelley, chair of the team, and Chief Steve Froio discussed with the mayor's office a plan to maintain police and fire representation at director positions despite the reductions. The cuts will eliminate school personnel and CERT team contact from emergency management, Kelley said.
The team confirmed all schools have updated evacuation plans, reported Emergency Management Program Grant documents submitted pending approval, discussed bringing the new full-time DPW director into meeting schedules, and outlined cooling center preparations and water distribution to community and senior centers.
