MALDEN — Board of Appeal approved variance for deck-to-bedroom conversion. The board voted 5-0 on January 21 to grant Daniel and Kari Miller's petition for a side yard setback variance at 52 Murray Hill Road. Kathryn Pakenham Bilgen moved and Alex Yu seconded approval, conditioned on the foundation not extending within a city easement.
Board Member John King raised concerns about a 1930s clay tile pipe under the property; builder John Downie confirmed no foundation would be placed under the addition and acknowledged the city bears no responsibility for future pipe removal.
